  • THINGS NIGERIANS GET ARRESTED FOR (THAT ARE NOT ACTUALLY CRIMES)

Every single day on Nigerian streets, thousands of citizens are harassed, extorted, or publicly shamed by security agents and local authorities for things that are 100% legal.

Section 36(12) of the Nigerian Constitution is very clear: You cannot be punished or arrested for an offense unless that offense is explicitly written down in a law.

If you or anyone you know has been intimidated for any of these 9 things, it’s time to learn the law.

1...... Having Dreadlocks, Tattoos, or Dressing "Indecently" ( or cross dressing)
This is the biggest source of daily harassment for young Nigerians. Task forces and officers will stop you simply for wearing a crop top, ripped jeans, or having dreadlocks.

    The Law:

There is no law in Nigeria that makes your hairstyle, body art, or clothing choice a crime. "Bad dressing" might be a moral issue for your community, but it is not a legal offense.

2.....Making a Phone Call at a Police Checkpoint, We’ve all seen it. An officer aggressively shouts, "Why are you on your phone? Hang up now!" and threatens to seize the phone or lock you up.

    The Law:

There is absolutely no section in the Police Act, Criminal Code, or Cybercrimes Act that forbids you from receiving or making a phone call while passing a checkpoint.

    3.....Impregnating a Consenting Adult
If a woman gets pregnant out of wedlock, the family often threatens to "lock the man up" or involves the police to force a marriage.

    The Law:

Between two consenting adults (18 and above), pregnancy is a family or religious issue. The police have zero jurisdiction here because adultery and fornication are not crimes under Southern Nigerian criminal law. It is strictly a civil and domestic matter.

4..... Filming or Recording the Police in Public
People are frequently beaten or arrested for pulling out their phones to record officers during an altercation or an illegal search.

    The Law:

Public spaces are public. Recording a public official performing their duties is not a crime...

Nigeria's police leadership has repeatedly confirmed that citizens have the right to record officers for accountability, provided they don't physically obstruct them.

5...... Staying Out Late (The "Night Raiding" Scam) Police vans love to raid bus stops or streets at 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM, packing innocent commuters into the back of the truck for "wandering."

    The Law:

The law on "Wandering" was completely abolished in Nigeria back in 1989. You have a constitutional right to freedom of movement at any hour of the day or night, unless there is a government-declared curfew.

6....... Failure to Pay a Financial Debt
If you owe money and cannot pay on time, creditors love to bring police officers to arrest you or lock you in a cell until your family raises the money.

    The Law:.

A debt is a breach of contract, which is a civil matter. Section 8(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) explicitly forbids the police from arresting someone over a purely civil wrong or debt.

7...... Walking Around Without an Identity Card
Vigilantes and security agents frequently arrest pedestrians simply because they cannot produce a national ID card or student ID on demand.

    The Law:

While it is highly advisable to carry an ID for safety, failing to carry one is not a criminal offense under any Nigerian statute. You cannot be legally arrested just because you forgot your wallet at home.

8...... Being Friends or Living with Someone of the Same Sex, People are often blackmailed or threatened with the "14-year jail term" law just for walking down the street or sharing a flat with a friend of the same gender.

    The Law:

The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act criminalizes the formal solemnization of marriage or public displays of amorous affection. It does not make friendship, cohabitation, or walking down the street with a same-sex friend illegal.

9.....Renting an Apartment as a Single Man or Woman, Some landlords or local estate associations claim it is "against the law" or a security risk for a young, unmarried person to rent a flat without a spouse's signature.

    The Law:

Section 42 of the Constitution strictly forbids discrimination based on sex or marital status. You have the absolute legal right to acquire and rent property anywhere in Nigeria, regardless of your relationship status.

Which of these 9 things have you or a friend been harassed for the most? Have you ever had to pay your way out of any of these situations?

Drop your experiences below, let's expose these extortion tactics!

  • From a teacher’s point of view, I can see why SS3 students do this “signing out” after WAEC - they’re excited, free, celebrating end of 6 years but these pictures show several reckless behaviours that carry real dangers.

Students have vandalized school uniforms with marker/pen writings and drawings. There’s also close body contact/hugging that looks inappropriate for school setting.

The last time I checked, school uniform represents the school. Scribbling on it indirectly teaches that school rules don’t matter once exams finish.
Students carry that same attitude into the university and subsequently, workplace.

What starts as ‘fun photo’ can become unwanted touching, peer pressure, or “dare” games. Some students regret these photos later. WAEC is over, but self respect and personal boundaries still matter.

Primary pupils and JSS students see SS3 seniors do this every year and probably think “That’s how we graduate”.
It becomes a cycle. Next year JSS3 will copy and even escalate to worse scenarios.

    My perspective as a teacher

It’s not about killing their joy:
    Students deserve to celebrate.
    We agree!
The big question is : ‘how do they celebrate?’

    To the sudent reading this,
I want you to know that freedom after WAEC is real but freedom without sense leads to regret.
Protect your dignity, your uniform, and each other while celebrating this milestone.

    Dear fellow teachers/ parents,

Our job isn’t to shame or castigate them. It’s to redirect that energy before someone gets hurt, hara$$ed, arrested or even ki!!£d.

  • When the food is finished, people call it a dirty plate.

    Think about that.

Just moments earlier, the same plate was valuable.

    Useful.

    Wanted.

Everyone was happy to have it.

But once it had served its purpose, many people only saw what was left behind.

And sometimes, life feels the same way.

Some people appreciate you while you’re giving.

    While you’re helping.

    While you’re supporting them.

While you’re solving their problems and making their lives easier.

But the moment you can no longer provide what they want, their attitude changes.

That’s when you discover whether they valued you or simply valued your usefulness.

The painful truth is that some people love the benefits more than the person.

But don’t let that make you bitter.

    Let it make you wiser.

Because the right people don’t stay because of what you can do for them.

They stay because of who you are.

Your value does not disappear the moment you stop being useful to someone.

It only disappears in the eyes of people who never truly appreciated you in the first place.

    Know the difference.

    And choose your circle accordingl

  • A woman who was among those kidnapped from Ariko village during their Easter church service has given birth to a child in the bandits' camp. Remember, women, little children, and some men have now been in captivity for 58 days. However, this woman gave birth a week ago. A woman who emerged from the camp after trekking for 3 days in the bush said the birth was difficult because the pregnant woman, like others in the camp, was malnourished.

According to her, the pregnant woman was ill when labour began, but with the help of other women experienced in traditional birth, they managed to help her give birth. She said the women pooled bits and pieces of their clothes that hadn't been washed since they arrived and wrapped the child.

When the bandits refused to give them anything sharp to cut the umbilical cord, after about an hour, a woman, out of desperation, used her teeth to cut it. Later, they pleaded for water to clean the child and the mother, but the bandits refused, saying they wouldn't waste water on a child who wouldn't survive. They wanted to go to a nearby stream to wash the child, but the bandit said no.

They also pleaded with the bandits to release the women so she could go home with the baby, but the bandits refused. The next problem was that the mother's breasts had no milk, as nothing came out because she was so malnourished. A while later, the child began to suck the little that started to come. Hours later, they were still pleading for water to wash the child and the mother when it began to rain.

The woman said they resorted to wetting a cloth in the rain and using it to wipe the child. She said the child was still alive five days later when she came out, though part of the umbilical cord attached to the navel had not yet fallen off.

She described acute hunger and pus-filled rashes covering most of their skin, especially the children's. She described little children and the women with heads full of lice. She spoke of how young children in the camp are persuaded to drink large amounts of river water just to fill their bellies and reduce hunger. She spoke of how the bandits will lead women into the bush to forage for leaves, which they boil and eat. She spoke of a time when they went 5 days without anything to eat except boiled leaves and water.

She spoke of how the men are always chained with bicycle chains. She said that sometimes the bandits lead some men into the bush to pluck mangoes, which are then shared out as meals. She spoke of taking a bath only every 7 or 10 days. She said the bandits would escort women and men, in batches, to bathe in the river and then watch them, especially the women, while they bathe naked.

She said other sensitive things that can’t be mentioned, but please include them in your prayers.

I was very anqry seeing those things he bought for our neighbor so I decided to sell it and use the m0ney for myself and face the consequenc£s

When he came back he did not see it again, he asked me where are those gift, I told him I have sold them and used the m0ney for something important, he became anqry and told me to go and bring it back and I told him I will not do that

  • PLATEAU TRAGEDY: A FAMILY KILLED… ARE WE REPEATING 1966?

    This is heartbreaking.

An Evangelical Church Winning All pastor, Rev. Choji, his wife, and two children were reportedly killed in Plateau State.

    A whole family—gone.

And Nigerians are asking the same painful question again:

Why do these killings keep happening?

    This is not new.

In 1966, during the build-up to the Nigerian Civil War, even Olusegun Obasanjo recorded concerns about unchecked violence in the North.
At the time, Yakubu Gowon himself admitted killings were becoming “reckless and irresponsible.”

    History is whispering again.

Then came Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu—who believed his people needed protection at all costs.

Today, the fear is the same:
When violence continues without consequence, what options remain?

Is this a failure of leadership?
    A failure of security?
Or a warning we are ignoring?

No tribe deserves this. No family deserves this.

    But one truth is clear:

If a nation cannot protect its people, the people will start asking hard questions.

Is it time to rethink how Nigeria is structured—especially on security?

Let’s talk. Calmly. Honestly. With facts—not hate.

  • WHERE IS CAN?
    SOLD THEIR SOULS OUT!!!

There's an innocent man in Nigeria right now with two million naira on his head for preaching the gospel.

His name is Apostle Garba Sunshine Emmanuel. Pastor in Kaduna. Wife. Three daughters.

He ran a 450-member church called Kingdom Impact in a community called Angwan Romi. In 2015 the Lord told him to shut it down and go preach to Muslims. He obeyed. Took it to TikTok and Facebook, where the Muslims were. Used the Quran to point them to Jesus. Accused of “blasphemy.”

For that, a northern imam put a one-million-naira bounty on his head. Christians demanded the imam's arrest. So the imam doubled the bounty to two million — and dared the DSS to come pick him up.

The DSS hasn't moved. The imam walks free. Preaches Friday. Eats lunch. Sleeps in his own bed.

    Apostle Emmanuel doesn't.

Last November a Muslim mob came for him. Police got there in time. A month ago they burned his house down. His wife and children are in hiding. He hasn't seen them in three weeks. The police, the soldiers, the DSS — by his own account, every one of them is working for the Muslims who want him dead.

Last week he reached out to me. The first thing he told me was simple: "I am the one that the whole Muslim in Nigeria are looking to kill."

Then he posted a reel: “If you kill me, please crucify me — so the world can see what you really are.”

He posted that to the men hunting him.

That is not a man begging for his life. That is a man who already gave it.

This is Nigeria. Not 1804. Not 2014. This week. A pastor preaching Jesus gets a two-million-naira price on his head, put there by an imam who walks free, told to his face by the pastor himself: crucify me.

Pray for Apostle Garba Sunshine Emmanuel. Pray for his wife. Pray for his three little girls.

And the imam who doubled the bounty?

Name him. Arrest him. Or stop pretending Nigeria has a government.

TO US OFFICIALS: Countless Nigerians are in danger from the brutal Tinubu regime and his Islamist overlords. They need ASYLUM urgently. Please help.

TO US OFFICIALS: Countless Nigerians are in danger from the brutal Tinubu regime and his Islamist overlords. They need ASYLUM urgently. Please help.
