  • A woman who was among those kidnapped from Ariko village during their Easter church service has given birth to a child in the bandits' camp. Remember, women, little children, and some men have now been in captivity for 58 days. However, this woman gave birth a week ago. A woman who emerged from the camp after trekking for 3 days in the bush said the birth was difficult because the pregnant woman, like others in the camp, was malnourished.

According to her, the pregnant woman was ill when labour began, but with the help of other women experienced in traditional birth, they managed to help her give birth. She said the women pooled bits and pieces of their clothes that hadn't been washed since they arrived and wrapped the child.

When the bandits refused to give them anything sharp to cut the umbilical cord, after about an hour, a woman, out of desperation, used her teeth to cut it. Later, they pleaded for water to clean the child and the mother, but the bandits refused, saying they wouldn't waste water on a child who wouldn't survive. They wanted to go to a nearby stream to wash the child, but the bandit said no.

They also pleaded with the bandits to release the women so she could go home with the baby, but the bandits refused. The next problem was that the mother's breasts had no milk, as nothing came out because she was so malnourished. A while later, the child began to suck the little that started to come. Hours later, they were still pleading for water to wash the child and the mother when it began to rain.

The woman said they resorted to wetting a cloth in the rain and using it to wipe the child. She said the child was still alive five days later when she came out, though part of the umbilical cord attached to the navel had not yet fallen off.

She described acute hunger and pus-filled rashes covering most of their skin, especially the children's. She described little children and the women with heads full of lice. She spoke of how young children in the camp are persuaded to drink large amounts of river water just to fill their bellies and reduce hunger. She spoke of how the bandits will lead women into the bush to forage for leaves, which they boil and eat. She spoke of a time when they went 5 days without anything to eat except boiled leaves and water.

She spoke of how the men are always chained with bicycle chains. She said that sometimes the bandits lead some men into the bush to pluck mangoes, which are then shared out as meals. She spoke of taking a bath only every 7 or 10 days. She said the bandits would escort women and men, in batches, to bathe in the river and then watch them, especially the women, while they bathe naked.

She said other sensitive things that can’t be mentioned, but please include them in your prayers.

  • The mistery of the shoe under the bed ,

One afternoon, a lady was relaxing at home. She had just finished cleaning the house and was wrapped in a towel after taking a bath. Suddenly, she heard a knock at the door.
To her surprise, it was her husband, a soldier, who had returned home earlier than expected from duty.
"Honey, you're back!" she shouted excitedly as she opened the door. "I missed you so much!"
The soldier smiled and stepped inside.
"I missed you too," he replied.
The lady laughed nervously. Unknown to the soldier, another man had entered the house earlier and was currently hiding under the bed in the bedroom, praying for a miracle.
Under the bed, the man whispered to himself, "Please, God, let this soldier be tired and sleep immediately."
The soldier walked into the bedroom.
The hidden man held his breath.
The lady stood at the doorway, sweating despite the fan blowing at full speed.
    Then the soldier suddenly stopped.
He looked down at the floor.
    He looked again.
Then he looked at his wife.
    Then back at the floor.
    "Honey..."
    "Y-yes?" the lady replied.
The soldier pointed at a large male shoe near the bed.
"Honey, I missed you too... but who owns this shoe on the floor?"
    The lady froze.
Under the bed, the hidden man nearly fainted.
    The soldier continued.
    "I know it's not mine."
The lady's brain immediately started running faster than a racing motorcycle.
"Oh, that shoe?" she said nervously. "It's... it's... it's a charity shoe!"
"A charity shoe?" asked the soldier.
    "Yes! Someone donated it!"
    The soldier folded his arms.
    "To our bedroom?"
    The lady swallowed hard.
Under the bed, the hidden man silently begged the ancestors for help.
The soldier picked up the shoe and examined it carefully.
    Then he noticed something else.
    "There is only one shoe."
    The lady quickly nodded.
"Exactly! That's why it's charity. The owner couldn't afford the second one."
    The soldier stared at her.
The hidden man under the bed covered his face in embarrassment.
Suddenly, a phone under the bed started ringing loudly.
    RING! RING! RING!
    Everyone froze.
The soldier slowly turned toward the bed.
The hidden man panicked and quickly answered the phone in a whisper.
    "Hello?"
Unfortunately, the room was completely silent.
    The soldier heard everything.
    "HELLO?" shouted the caller.
    The soldier's eyes widened.
    The lady's heart almost stopped.
The soldier bent down slowly to look under the bed.
The hidden man immediately barked like a dog.
    "Woof! Woof! Woof!"
    The soldier blinked.
    The lady blinked.
    The dog impersonator continued.
    "Woof! Woof!"
The soldier stood up and looked at his wife.
    "Honey..."
    "Yes?"
"Since when did we start keeping a dog under our bed?"
    The lady replied instantly,
    "Since inflation started."
    The soldier looked confused.
    The hidden man looked confused.
Even the caller on the phone sounded confused.
The soldier shook his head and finally pulled the man from under the bed.
The frightened man stood up slowly.
    The soldier looked at him.
The man looked at the soldier.
The lady looked at both of them.
An awkward silence filled the room.
Then the soldier held up the shoe and asked,
    "So this belongs to you?"
    The man nodded.
The soldier handed it to him and said,
    "Take it."
The man happily collected the shoe.
Then the soldier smiled and asked,
"Now where is the second shoe?"
The man immediately realized he had left the second shoe in the living room.
    The soldier's smile disappeared.
    The hidden man's smile disappeared.
    The lady's smile disappeared.
At that moment, all three knew the meeting was about to become much longer than expected.
Lesson: If you're trying to hide, always remember that shoes have a habit of telling the truth before people do!

  • When the food is finished, people call it a dirty plate.

    Think about that.

Just moments earlier, the same plate was valuable.

    Useful.

    Wanted.

Everyone was happy to have it.

But once it had served its purpose, many people only saw what was left behind.

And sometimes, life feels the same way.

Some people appreciate you while you’re giving.

    While you’re helping.

    While you’re supporting them.

While you’re solving their problems and making their lives easier.

But the moment you can no longer provide what they want, their attitude changes.

That’s when you discover whether they valued you or simply valued your usefulness.

The painful truth is that some people love the benefits more than the person.

But don’t let that make you bitter.

    Let it make you wiser.

Because the right people don’t stay because of what you can do for them.

They stay because of who you are.

Your value does not disappear the moment you stop being useful to someone.

It only disappears in the eyes of people who never truly appreciated you in the first place.

    Know the difference.

    And choose your circle accordingl

  • From a teacher’s point of view, I can see why SS3 students do this “signing out” after WAEC - they’re excited, free, celebrating end of 6 years but these pictures show several reckless behaviours that carry real dangers.

Students have vandalized school uniforms with marker/pen writings and drawings. There’s also close body contact/hugging that looks inappropriate for school setting.

The last time I checked, school uniform represents the school. Scribbling on it indirectly teaches that school rules don’t matter once exams finish.
Students carry that same attitude into the university and subsequently, workplace.

What starts as ‘fun photo’ can become unwanted touching, peer pressure, or “dare” games. Some students regret these photos later. WAEC is over, but self respect and personal boundaries still matter.

Primary pupils and JSS students see SS3 seniors do this every year and probably think “That’s how we graduate”.
It becomes a cycle. Next year JSS3 will copy and even escalate to worse scenarios.

    My perspective as a teacher

It’s not about killing their joy:
    Students deserve to celebrate.
    We agree!
The big question is : ‘how do they celebrate?’

    To the sudent reading this,
I want you to know that freedom after WAEC is real but freedom without sense leads to regret.
Protect your dignity, your uniform, and each other while celebrating this milestone.

    Dear fellow teachers/ parents,

Our job isn’t to shame or castigate them. It’s to redirect that energy before someone gets hurt, hara$$ed, arrested or even ki!!£d.

The big question is : ‘how do they celebrate?’ To the sudent reading this, I want you to know that freedom after WAEC is real but freedom without sense leads to regret. Protect your dignity, your uniform, and each other while celebrating this milestone. Dear fellow teachers/ parents, Our job isn’t to shame or castigate them. It’s to redirect that energy before someone gets hurt, hara$$ed, arrested or even ki!!£d.
